The work began when Zen Master Seung Sahn first came to America in 1972 and has been sustained by generations of Western monks and nuns who have given themselves to the support of the sangha.

In gratitude for this, the Kwan Um School now wishes to give back to our senior monastics by providing a small stipend and basic healthcare – a cushion so they can continue their work.
